Bad Weather Drivers

What is it with bad weather?
A little bit of rain and every twat who owns a car will roll it out for the one of the very few times they will brave rush hour traffic.
Having driven in many differant types of rush hour traffic all round the country, i can safely say that i'm more experienced that many drivers on the road.
But introduce a little rain inthe equation and all the non-regular road users will get on the road and basically screw it all up, the amount of twats I saw this morning, not knowing how to filter in, or blocking junctions cause it was too wet to see the markings or my favourite gripe

NOT TURNING THEIR LIGHTS ON

What is it? bad weather, no lights, they aint just for you to be able to see you know!!! it's for us to see you as well!

SO TURN THEM BLOODY WELL ON.

and lastly, this morning we watched an Ann Summers delivery van (plate LC53FKA) cut us up, and then proceed to cut 2 other drivers up. and just didn't seem to care! and to top it all, the tag line on the van was "Delivering you pleasure" yeah right, not that bleeding van driver!

I do the same journey to work every day of the week, and i see the traffic levels at the same times, and it's always twice as bad with twice as bad driving if there have been the slightest hint of rain or heaven forbid snow!

'Infomania' worse than marijuana

'Infomania' worse than marijuana
Person using computer
Many workers are always on standby to react to incoming messages
Workers distracted by email and phone calls suffer a fall in IQ more than twice that found in marijuana smokers, new research has claimed.

The study for computing firm Hewlett Packard warned of a rise in "infomania", with people becoming addicted to email and text messages.

Researchers found 62% of people checked work messages at home or on holiday.

The firm said new technology can help productivity, but users must learn to switch computers and phones off.

Losing sleep

The study, carried out at the Institute of Psychiatry, found excessive use of technology reduced workers' intelligence.

Those distracted by incoming email and phone calls saw a 10-point fall in their IQ - more than twice that found in studies of the impact of smoking marijuana, said researchers.

More than half of the 1,100 respondents said they always responded to an email "immediately" or as soon as possible, with 21% admitting they would interrupt a meeting to do so.

The University of London psychologist who carried out the study, Dr Glenn Wilson, told the Daily Mail that unchecked infomania could reduce workers' mental sharpness.

Those who are constantly breaking away from tasks to react to email or text messages suffer similar effects on the mind as losing a night's sleep, he said.

Now you've read the article. Having never smoked Marijuana, I couldn't possibly say what the effects are of it on the brain, but the story did conjure a picture of PotHeads running IT Dept's....hang on a minute, i work in an IT dept.....

I will admit i cannot stay away from email etc, but then again it's my job, but i have trained myself to stay away as much as possible, mostly by reading or some other activity not related to PC. honest guvnor! :-)

Me, Myself and You

Well it's Friday the 23rd of February, and I've held off long enough from having my own blog, everyone i know has one, so i felt it was only fair that i had one too.

Welcome to my little corner of the Internet where I hang out sometimes and post some mindless bollocks! - Just like this post really.

Hobbies, hmm, thats easy i guess.

Reading. I read mostly fantasy, and Historical Fiction, with some thrillers thrown in for good measure. as to favourite Authors, well Simon and Alex Scarrow figure very highly up there on the list, the late great David Gemmell (I credit him for getting me into reading in the first place!) Early stuff from David Eddings, Conn Iggulden, and others to numerous to name.

I have the singular pleasure to know Alex and Simon Scarrow, as we all live in the same city, I started as a fanboy i guess, but it's developed from there into a friendship.
Reading Simons books has also instilled an interest in ancient history, especially roman history, I dont get the time to read a huge amount on it, but it's there!

As to their books, simple words really READ THEM!

Simons Eagles are superb, think sharpe set in the roman legions, but funnier, more gripping and bloody good!

Alex has to date 1 published title, a superb thriller called A Thousand Suns, check it out it's very good and from what i've managed to gleen his next novel called LastLight is just as good and not a little scary!

Right Other hobbies!

Motorsport, anything with an engine really, i'm not a grease monkey, dont know a bloody thing about engines, but i love good racing, bikes, open wheelers, touring cars.

I try to get to as many of the British Touring Car rounds as i can over the season, (should get to 5 this year, woohoo!)
